MLB – Kansas City Goes To The ALDS – Giants and Pirates Play Tonight:
The Kansas City Royals are advancing to the ALDS after a dramatic 9-8, twelfth-inning win over the Oakland Athletics in the American League Wild Card Game from Kauffman Stadium.
KC scored twice in the bottom of the 12th after erasing a four-run deficit earlier in the game.
Salvador Perez came through with the game-winning RBI single with two outs in the 12th to score Christian Colon, who had knocked in Eric Hosmer to tie the game.
Hosmer finished 3-for-4 with two walks, an RBI and two runs while Billy Butler and Lorenzo Cain each drove in a pair.
James Shields gave up four runs in five-plus innings in the start while Jason Frasor was credited with the win.
The Royals will now face the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS starting Thursday.
The San Francisco Giants play the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Wild Card game tonight at PNC Park.
The winner of the one-game, do-or-die matchup moves on to play the NL East champion Washington Nationals in the NL Division Series starting Friday in D.C.
Madison Bumgarner takes the mound tonight for San Francisco.
The left-hander went 18-and-10 with a 2.98 ERA during the regular season.
