They say you can get anything at Walmart, but don’t remind Mica Craig. KXLY-TV reports the 47-year-old was shopping in the garden center at the store in Clarkston, Washington when he went to move aside a stick near a bag of mulch — but the stick turned out to be a rattlesnake, which clamped down on his arm.

Craig shook the reptile loose, but the damage was done: he was rushed to the hospital where he was given six vials of anti-venom, and underwent surgery on his arm to avoid further damage. As he continues to recover, he will be considering legal action against the store.

Woman Assaults Friend with Tiki Torch

A 26-year-old Ohio woman was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly beating another woman with a tiki torch during a fight over a man. According to the Toledo Blade, Shanisa Ellison battered victim Marquita Jackson with the decorative item, causing injuries to her head and torso.

Cops say alcohol was a factor in the spat turning physical. Ellison was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

Train Tunnel Thieves Snatch 22,000 Feet of Cable

A daring theft left Seattle’s light rail system minus 22 thousand feet of copper cable, cops announced Friday. According to KGW, the 70 thousand pounds of wire were worth 250 thousand bucks, thanks to sky-high metal scrap metal prices.

Police say the thieves likely chopped up the wire into 50- to 60-pound chunks and hauled it away. The cable doesn’t directly affect train operations, but was utilized to deflect stray currents in the tunnel.

ABC News reported Tuesday (May 15th) that a medical report put together by the family physician of George Zimmerman shows he was diagnosed with a closed fracture of his nose, two black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head — one nearly an inch long and the other about a quarter of an inch — and a minor back injury the day after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin during an alleged altercation in late February. Zimmerman, who is facing second-degree murder charges, claims he shot the unarmed 17-year-old in self-defense. The medical report could back up Zimmerman’s claim that Martin punched him in the face and then repeatedly bashed his head into the pavement, leading him to fear for his life and shoot Martin in the chest. The medical report also shows that Zimmerman declined hospitalization on the night of the shooting.

Thief Robs Bank, Forgets Loot

A man successfully robbed a bank with what turned out to be a fake bomb in Chicago on Monday, but he forgot one little detail: the cash forked over by the teller.

The Chicago Tribune reports the suspect entered a Citibank branch on Michigan Avenue before 10 a.m. Monday morning and threatened employees with what appeared to be a bomb in a bag and demanded cash.

When tellers complied, the would-be robber fled — leaving the money and his device behind. Police cordoned off the area until experts deemed the bomb a fake.

The suspect is still at large.

Cops Capture Nude “Angel”

Police in Ketchikan, Alaska were given a divine excuse as to why a 22-year-old man took a naked noon-time stroll through the streets last Friday.

The free-spirited suspect told police he didn’t need to wear clothes because he’s an angel, the Ketchikan Daily News reports. The streaker was charged with second-degree indecent exposure.

“Tooth Fairy” Leads Cops on High Speed Chase, Sparks Fire

A Houston man was busted by cops after a high speed chase early Friday morning, and gave arresting officers an interesting answer when he was asked what he does: he claimed to be the tooth fairy.

The unidentified man kept cops busy when he was spotted behind the wheel of a car that had been reported stolen. After several near-misses catching him, authorities repeatedly deployed spike strips, which flattened the suspect’s tires, and eventually sent one burning tire into some shrubbery, setting the bushes ablaze, according to KRIV-TV.

When the man was finally arrested, he told cops he had borrowed the car from a friend — something cops had trouble confirming. The driver also said he had three beers, was in fear for his life, and he was, in fact, the tooth fairy.

Vendor Busted for Selling Sex and Hot Dogs

A hot dog vendor is in hot water for reportedly being busted for selling franks with sex on the side. The New York Post reports the family of 45-year-old Catherine Scalia won’t post bail for the Long Island, New York woman, whose “specials” offered from her roadside hot dog van included stripping and performing sex acts.

According to the newspaper, Scalia had been handing out suggestive business cards touting her off-menu services until some customers complained, prompting a sting by an undercover officer.

This is the second time Scalia’s been arrested on sex charges. Her 13-year-old son told the paper, “She went to prison for four years from 2004 to 2008 for the same thing — this prostitution stuff…I just feel like if she stays in jail and does the time, then she will learn her lesson.”

“Hot Dog Hooker” Off the Chain: “I’m Sexy and I Know It!”

If there was any regret from a hot dog vendor accused of selling herself as a side dish, you couldn’t tell from Catherine Scalia when she was released from a Long Island, New York jail Tuesday afternoon.

Repeatedly grabbing her breasts for the cameras, a defiant Scalia shouted “I’m sexy and I know it!” to waiting news cameras, and denied she’d done anything wrong. “I’m a mother of four kids and, yes, I show my cleavage,” the 45-year-old said. “I think it’s sexy. If Pamela Anderson can do it, so can I,” Scalia said to reporters.

Although she reportedly pleaded guilty to prostitution, she denied doing so, saying she’s just “a stripper.” Scalia repeatedly said, “indecent exposure is not prostitution…There’s no sexual act!”

Scalia was busted for prostitution last week after an undercover cop claims she offered him sexual favors after he met her at her roadside camper van from which she peddles wieners.

Scalia been busted for prostitution once before, back in 2004. This time around, she faces seven days in jail, but she’s already served five of those.

MHSAA: Representative Council Advances Age Waiver Proposal To Schools

GAYLORD, Mich. – May 7 – The Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association, at its Spring meeting which concluded here today, approved a proposal for a vote by member schools which would change the organization’s Constitution to allow for a waiver of its maximum age limitation under narrowly defined circumstances.

Ballots will be mailed this week. Schools have two weeks to return the ballots, which must be signed by the school principal and superintendent. The MHSAA will post the wording of the proposal on its website not later than May 14.

The Representative Council is the 19-member legislative body of the MHSAA. All but five members are elected by member schools. Four members are appointed by the Council to facilitate representation of females and minorities; and the 19th position is occupied by the Superintendent of Public Instruction or designee. The Council meets three times annually – in early December, late March, and early May – to act on proposals for its eligibility rules, sports in which the Association sponsors post-season tournaments, and operational matters.

Currently under MHSAA rules, a student who turns 19 prior to Sept. 1 of a school year is not eligible for interscholastic athletics. Michigan is one of approximately 40 states which use this maximum or have a younger maximum age limit. The MHSAA’s Constitution, which can only be changed by a two-thirds vote of member schools, does not allow the maximum age rule to be waived. Michigan is in the majority of states which do not allow waiver of the rule.

“We recognize that member schools have preferred a bright line for the maximum age rule,” said MHSAA Executive Director John E. “Jack” Roberts. “We have prepared for a vote of the membership what we believe is the best alternative – better for Michigan than any proposal we have reviewed from other sources.

“The Representative Council does not advance proposals it does not want the membership to support, and an affirmative vote by schools is being specifically requested on this proposal.”

Based on member school input, the Council previously rejected proposals from the same member school district for a constitutional vote in 2010 and 2011. The school district did not exercise its option to launch its own petition drive of member schools; nor did it avail itself of an athletic eligibility advancement provision in the MHSAA Handbook which allows for over aged students to have four years of high school participation with their age group.

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by nearly 1,600 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition. No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools. Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
